Path to Success

The history and success of soccer in South Australia and across the nation is built in conjunction with the strength and resilience of immigrant communities, forming clubs and associations to play our great game. Ghan United Football Club mirrors this.
Our success has not been without its challenges though. Acceptance in our community has not been without its detractors just as acceptance in the soccer community has taken time and effort. However, Ghan’s results speak for themselves. Not only on the field where we have excelled and won the respect of our opponents, but also in the many and varied ways our presence in our region has fostered acceptance, social inclusion and has built hope.
Ghan United Football Club has risen in the ranks of the SA Amateur League (SAASL) standings from Division 5 to Division 1 in Sunday League in 2012 over a very short period of time. In the 2019 season, we consolidated our position in the SAASL top division and made the Semi Finals of the Amateur League Challenge Cup with our Reserves team. In the 2020 ‘COVID’ season we continued to develop as a club finishing third in our group before eventually winning the Sunday Presidents’ Shield and then the Champion of Champions shield over USC Lion. Our most recent success comes from winning the 2022 MASA Unity Cup. Our women’s team is developing well with one of our inaugural players being selected to play for the Afghanistan National Women’s Under 23 team. Our junior teams have also performed well. Football at Ghan provides many benefits for children living in our area in addition to simply participating in active sport. This community benefit is an integral part of Ghan Kilburn City’s vision for the future
